Cambridge School Academic

Cambridge Academic Summer Boarding Courses, hosted by Sancton Wood School in Cambridge, offer international students an opportunity to live and study in the renowned university city of Cambridge. This pre-university programme is designed for aspiring students seeking to combine subject-specific study with professional experiences to develop key knowledge and skills for their future studies and career prospects.

Lessons integrate theory and practice, combining classroom instructions and practical workshops with industry experiene visits. Students will gain proficiency in their core subject through a series of engaging and challenging academic seminars, lectures and workshops, where students are required to take the initiative, think critically and to cooperate with others to solve problems, simulating what we do every day in a work environment. Students will also gain direct industry experience from industry-leading professionals each week to gain first-hand insight into your chosen field.

Students can choose one of four Award-Winning specialised subjects to study over a two-week course programme:

Cambridge Academic Subjects

Each week all students will take part in a group presentation project to dive deep into their chosen field, apply their learning, and cultivate their confidence, research, collaboration, presentation and public speaking skills.

TimetoShine Project

The comprehensive syllabus is combined with fun activity programme and cultural excursions, where students are encouraged to exchange ideas, collaborate, show initiative and improve their confidence whilst having fun. At the end of the programme, students will receive a certificate of completion and a Letter of Reference.

  • Course Essentials:

    Cambridge Academic Summer Boarding Courses consist of a well-balanced academic programme of course tuition, multi-activities, sports and excursions. It includes:

    • 50 hours of academic tuition over two weeks
    • 2 Industry Experience
    • 2 Guest Lectures
    • End of Course Report and Reference Letter
    • 2 full-day excursions over two weeks
    • Full social and activity programmes outside classrooms
    • Maximum class size is 15, and the average class size is around 12.
    • Comprehensive travel insurance
    • Airport transfers are NOT included. £130 one-way supplement charge if required.

  • Boarding:

    Cambridge SBC17Students will stay in purpose-built student accommodation with single en-suite bedrooms. Girls and boys are accommodated separately.

    Students will be roomed with someone of a similar age, but different native language. However, we will do our best to meet any specific accommodation requests (e.g. sharing a room with a friend). We require early notification from parents for special arrangement.

    The friendly and supportive house parents and residential staff team are available 24 hours per day to support students.

    Meals:

    Well balanced, nutritious cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided in the beautiful dining hall. Water and drinks are provided with meals.

    Packed lunches are provided for excursions.

    The school boasts a wide range of impressive facilities including the professional 200-seat theatre, indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and sports pitches. These facilities could accommodate a wide range of skills and interests.

    The school’s recent £10 million campus investment gives students the space for a stimulating learning environment with specialist lab facilities for science, as well as specialist areas for art and drama. Sancton Wood is near Cambridge University Botanic Garden, with other landmarks such as The Corpus Clock The University Museum of Zoology and Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences within walking distance too.

    Laundry:

    Laundry is done once a week. All bed linen is provided and is laundered once a week. Towels are not provided.

  • Sancton Wood School is a co-educational school in Cambridge for pupils aged from 1 to 16, providing seamless progression from nursery, pre-prep, prep to senior school.     Sancton Wood School enjoys first-rate success, and is regularly placed in The Times Top 100 Schools and was recently placed at the top of an ISA table of points per pupil. Sancton Wood has been ranked 7th in The Sunday Times for GCSE Results Finalist for Student Careers Programme of the Year 2023 and Finalist for Co-educational Independent School of the Year 2021. 97% of the students achieved grades 4-9. An astounding 27% were grade 9s and almost 70% of the GCSEs awarded were in the top grades, 7-9, equivalent to A*-A.
