10 – 16 year olds, girls and boys (English level: Elementary to Advanced)
English plus Media Production Summer Camp is designed for motivated students who want to gain a deeper understanding of media production whilst improving their English skills. The course enables students to study their favourite subject in English, which provides a natural context for language use and enhances language acquisition, as well as developing essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration.
The course syllabus incorporates 30 hours of English language study with 15 hours specialist workshops on media production over a two-week course programme. Taught by qualified EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers, students follow a structured syllabus, incorporating English language study, academic skills, group projects and excursion link sessions. The language study lessons focus on the communicative style of language learning and provide grammar and vocabulary tailored to students’ ability, and academic skills sessions give students an introduction to exam techniques and are intended to help students improve the skills of academic reading, writing, listening and speaking. All students will also participate themed weekly group projects which encourage collaboration and communication through the completion of real-world tasks. Students will also learn local history, culture of the area and vocabulary relating to the landmarks before they embark on excursions.
In additon to morning English lessons, students will receive specialist workshops on media production in the afternoons, to develop skills in blogging, vlogging, podcasting and music production. Students will produce content across themes such as news and current affairs, advertising and marketing, and gain deeper understanding of the subject of their interest. Engaging in subjects of interest allows students to unconsciously improve their language skills, making the learning process more engaging, thus making faster progress and enhancing both English and academic skills.
The comprehensive syllabus is combined with fun activity programme and cultural excursions, where students are encouraged to exchange ideas, collaborate, show initiative and improve their confidence whilst having fun.
