7-12/13-14 year olds, girls and boys (English Level: A2/B1 to Advanced)
London Academic Day Program is a day-only summer programme, integrating English language learning with national curriculum of UK primary/secondary school. The courses are designed to help students who look for a fun way of developing their subject knowledge and confidence, while improving their language skills and to be better able in future to follow a course of academic study delivered in English.
This is a Day Only programme, ideal for young students who live in London or are holidaying with their parents. Monday to Friday, junior/senior students will study 15 hours / 18 hours per week in the mornings and then enjoy a trip or leisure activity in the afternoons before going home at 18.00.
Junior students aged 7-12 will follow a primary school curriculum, whereas senior students aged 13-14 will chose their academic stream from the rich palette of STEAM, Social Studies or Arts offered as part of the GCSE curriculum. Lessons are cross-curricular, where students will study a topic or participate in a project which combines different subjects. Students will be taught by experienced primary/secondary school teachers depending on age groups and course curriculums, and supported by experienced teachers of English.
The course fully integrates English language learning and academic subject study through European ground-breaking teaching method – Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), an approach for learning content through a foreign language (English), thus teaching both the subject and the language. The course aims to help students to achieve their personal best in every subject, and the main learning styles are learning through hearing, learning through seeing and learning through doing.
In the afternoons students will explore the city of London such as Houses of Parliament, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tower Bridge, Tower of London. Diana Memorial Playground, Buckingham Palace, Natural History Museum, London Eye and Kidzania, National Gallery, Horse Guards Parade, Royal Albert Hall. We will have sports contests during our sports days in Hyde Park/St James Park before having a traditional afternoon tea. Students will chill out back at school on Thursday afternoons with crafts and activity afternoons.
Junior students can also opt to attend full board residential programme Junior Academic Adventurers (7-12) in Bristol, whereas senior students take the full programme of London Academic Summer Courses (13-17) in London or a GCSE/IGCSE Explorers (12-14) programme in Bristol.
