  • Founded in 1611, Charterhouse is one of the UK’s great independent boarding and day schools with a prestigious global reputation for excellence in education for boys and girls aged 13 to 18. With over 400 years of history, Charterhouse is one of the original 7 most exclusive public schools in England, which, among Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Westminster, Rugby and Shrewsbury, produced the country’s most powerful people – 94 times more likely to be the UK’s elite according to 120 years of data in Who’s Who.

The School is set within an inspiring 250‑acre campus, conveniently located close to London and within 50 minutes of both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. With historic buildings alongside modern teaching suites, beautiful landscaped grounds and incredible sports facilities, the campus boasts 17 grass sports pitches, 3 full‑sized Astroturf pitches, an athletics stadium, a sports centre, 24 tennis courts and a 9‑hole golf course, not to mention beautiful lawns and gardens, the campus is one of the best, if not the best, in the country.

The school is academically ambitious for all pupils, with each strand of a Charterhouse education combining to ensure that they are ‘future-ready’. The curriculum is all about choice for the individual and is firmly rooted in academic rigour, intellectual curiosity and independent learning. In GCSE results 2024, over half (56%) of all results were graded 9-8 (A*). 74% achieved grades 9-7 (‘straight As’). In A-Level 2024, an impressive 86% of papers were awarded A*-B grades (or equivalent) across a cohort of 170 pupils taking A Levels or the IB Diploma Programme, and amongst the top 150 pupils 91% of courses were graded A*-B. The 2024 leavers have taken up places at top universities in the UK, US and around the world and nearly 85% of UK applicants will be attending Russell Group universities, with Durham, UCL and Kings being the most popular, alongside places at Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial.

In 2024, Charterhouse is awarded the prestigious Princess Royal Training Award, and is shortlisted for the Tatler Schools Award for Best Public School, with nominations from a variety of sources including public votes. It has also earned a spot as a Top Flight school in the Spear’s Schools Index 2024. This places Charterhouse among the top 25 best UK senior schools, among 100 leading private schools globally.
