English level: Elementary – Advanced
Every year, thousands of players from over 100 nations join Nike Sports Summer Camps to develop new skills, grow in confidence, improve English and make lifelong friends at England’s most prestigious world-class boarding schools near London — Charterhouse School, Radley College Oxford and Bradfield College.
At Nike Sports Summer Camps, sport is at the heart of every programme. Developed and coached by the world’s leading professional coaches, all programs are designed to give young players an authentic taste of life as an elite athlete. Each training program is built on four pillars: Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental. Players can participate in 1 or 2 week of specialist sports camps in 6 sports: Football, Tennis, Basketball, Golf, Hockey and Volleyball, and choose from 2 camp options: “Total Sport” or “Sport + English”, to focus entirely on developing their game, or to combine sport training with English language lessons. Specialist Goalkeepers Camps with Chelsea FC are also available for senior players.
On each camp, players are assessed and grouped by age and ability. All camps include up to 24 hours of professional sports coaching per week. In addition, players on the “Total Sport” option take 8 hours of Sports Workshops and recovery activities, while those on the “Sport + English” option take 13 hours of English lessons.
English Lessons focus on sport, harnessing students’ passion for the subject to promote language learning in a fun and interactive environment. The qualified English teachers infuse language learning into lively and active classes where sports-based projects, discussions and activities take centre stage through the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. Sports Workshops introduce a range of topics designed to give a broader view and better understanding of athletic performance and what it takes to succeed in sports. Recovery exercises, such as yoga, help players manage the workload of two training sessions each day. A Weekly Tournament and Awards night celebrate players’ successes.
Depending on the sport, all camps include an action-packed schedule of 1 or 2 day excursions a week, ensuring young players maximise their learning and gain a valuable cultural experience. Players leave with new skills, confidence and friends from around the globe.
