Harrow School is an all-boys full-boarding school, founded in 1572 under a royal charter granted by Elizabeth I. It is one of seven English public schools, as defined by the Public Schools Act 1868, which are the oldest and most famous and respected secondary schools in the world, educating many sons and daughters of the English upper and upper-middle classes. Its famous alumni include eight former Prime Ministers, including Winston Churchill, numerous foreign statesmen and UK Parliament members, two Kings and various royal families, and a great many notable figures in both the arts and the sciences.
The School boasts 300 acres of beautiful grounds, and is located in the beautiful village of Harrow on the Hill, with stunning views of central London. The campus combines traditional buildings with modern facilities which includes six conservation areas, a registered park, a nine-hole golf course and even a working farm, offering specialist academies in tennis, golf and piano. Certain scenes of Harry Potter were filmed there.
Harrow is one of a very few schools still specialising in providing a high quality full boarding school education. As Tatler Schools Guide 2014 pointed – The School’s ‘super-curriculum’ which encourages independent learning, debate and scholarship, as well as lots of philanthropic activity make Harrovians continue to excel at everything they turn their hands to.
Harrow School’s academic education is first-rate with enormously passionate teachers. At A-level in 2022, more than 75% were A-grades and 75% were at 9, 8 or A* at IGCSE. Excellent A-level results make Harrovians taking up places at six of the world’s top ten universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford and Chicago. Twenty-four Harrovians gained places at US universities and a record number take up places at a Russell Group university.
