Rugby School is one of the original “Big Seven” exclusive public schools of England with a prestigious global reputation. Rugby School Summer English Courses offer international students an exclusive opportunity to study English and experience the life, heritage, and values of Rugby School – from historic surroundings and world-class facilities to formal assemblies, dinner speeches, and expert guidance on UK school and university pathways.
Rugby School Summer English Courses blend English language (EAL) lessons and traditional school subject lessons. Taught by experienced EAL teacher, international sudents will enjoy 22 hours of lessons per week, with a mixed academic curriculum of both English lessons and traditional subject lessons like History, Business, Politics and Art. The programme fully integrates English language and subject learning through ground-breaking teaching method – Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL).
Students will be pre-tested online for their English level and streamed to tailor class content to learner abilities. Students with a tested English Level of B1+ will be invited to a short online interview to discuss their interests and assess their suitability for Subject Specific Lessons.

The integrated programme is crafted to provide ambitious young people a life-shaping experience rooted in Rugby School’s values, ethos and global reputation. Students will take part in a bespoke series of Rugby Floreat (life education) sessions that include: advice on planning your future, sport, community engagement, and authentic social interaction with UK peers. Exceptional, academically – linked cultural excursions encourage students to make connections across disciplines, and linking with special time set aside during the exciting schedule of cultural trips.

Rugby School Summer English Courses consist of a well-balanced programme of English tuition, activities, sports and excursions. It includes:

- 16 hours of Extended EAL/Subject Specific classes

Excursions:
Excursions are a vital part of the summer experience for international students to gain a cultural understanding of the UK alongside English language learning. Students will have 4 academically linked excursions to experience the rich cultural heritage of Britain, and contextualise their learning from the classrooms. The sample excursions include*:

Boarding:
Students stay in Rugby School’s traditional boarding house, with their stunning architecture, impressive history and charming atmosphere. The boarding house has a variety of room types – single, twins, and quad rooms, with shared bathroom facilities. Girls and boys are accommodated separately. There are also communal areas for students to relax and socialise together. A team of friendly staff will stay with the students within the boarding houses and are available at all times to provide assistance and a high level of supervision.
Meals:
Well balanced, nutritious three cooked meals a day with a wide range of salads and hot dishes are provided in the school dining room. Students will also enjoy 4 x fun formal dinners and guest speakers.Vegetarian meals are always available and are clearly labelled. Packed lunches are provided for excursions.
Facilities:
Rugby School offers extensive, modern facilities for sports, academics, and residential life, blending historic buildings with modern facilities, including impressive sports fields, music schools, and a dedicated Sixth Form Centre. The school’s sporting facilities are a major highlight, including the famous ‘The Close’ pitch where the game of rugby football was invented in 1823. Wi-Fi is available throughout the school.Laundry:
Laundry is done once a week. All bed linen is provided and is laundered once a week. Towels are not provided.Rugby School was founded in 1567 by Lawrence Sheriff, a spice purveyor to Queen Elizabeth I, and is famously recognized as the birthplace of the sport of rugby football. The School embraces a holistic model, integrating academic, artistic, spiritual and sporting pursuits into an indivisible whole. It became fully co-educational in 1992 and now educates around 865 students aged 13-18, who are mostly full boarders.
Rugby School is known for its academic rigor and innovation, with a focus on developing the “whole person”.
Curriculum: The school offers a broad curriculum, including GCSEs, A-Levels (in 29 subjects), and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, allowing students to choose the path best suited to their aspirations. It developed the widely recognized Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
Performance: Academic results are strong, with 68% of A-Level students achieving A*/A grades and 83% of GCSE students scoring 9/7 in 2023. A significant number of students gain places at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Teaching Style: Teachers act as “learning guides,” fostering curiosity and independence, and the school actively integrates modern technology, including AI, into lessons.
While rugby football is central to its heritage, the school offers an extensive range of over 200 co-curricular activities, including cricket, hockey, music, arts, and community service. Professional coaches and ex-players are involved in sports instruction. The campus features a modern sports center with a 25m pool, astro-turf pitches, and squash courts.
